1.1 Environmental Policy

The Trust is committed to protecting the environment across the scope of the organisations activities.

To minimize environmental impacts concerning our activities, the Trust will:

  • Comply with applicable legal requirements and other requirements to which the Trust subscribes which relate to our environmental aspects.
  • Prevent pollution, reduce waste and minimise the consumption of resources.
  • Educate, train and motivate employees to carry out tasks in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Encourage environmental protection among our suppliers and subcontractors.

The Trust is committed to continual improvement of environmental performance. This Policy will be communicated to all trustees, contractors and suppliers, and be available for the public.


1.2 Health and Safety Policy (statement)

The Trust are committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our employees (if any) and other persons (hunters/food gatherers) to whom access has been granted by way of permit to areas over which the Trust has control.

In making that commitment, the Trust acknowledge that the lessee of Trust lands also has responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation, and undertake to work in cooperation with such lessee.

Health and Safety is everyone's business. All persons entering Trust lands are expected to recognise the commitment to avoid accidents and incidents which may cause injury, property damage or loss of any kind.

All persons are expected to act safely at all times to ensure their own welfare and of all others on Trust lands.

The Trust will, in respect of Trust lands:

  • Provide and maintain safe working environment (if appropriate) and cooperate or contribute to Health and Safety for all visitors.
  • Ensure, to the best of the Trusts ability, that no person is exposed to unmanaged or uncontrolled hazards
  • Ensure that all persons are informed of known hazards. This shall apply to employees (if any), hunters, food gatherers and all other visitors.
  • Ensuring all plant and equipment owned by the Trust is safe, by design and operation.
  • Develop and implement emergency procedures
  • Systematically identify and control all hazards in the areas under direct control of the Trust. The Trust will encourage contribution and exchange of Heath and Safety information with other parties. Where there are significant hazards in areas under the Trusts direct control, all practicable steps to eliminate, isolate and or minimise these hazards to prevent any injury or damage will be taken
  • Ensure all employees/persons are properly trained and supervised.
  • Ensure all accidents/incidents in areas under the Trust’s direct control are reported to the Forest Managers and Mangaroa Ohotu Trustees, and take all practicable steps to prevent these events from happening.
  • Carry out planned self-inspections of Trust land to monitor Health and Safety issues.
  • Encourage all persons to report all hazards to the Forest Managers and Mangaroa Ohotu Trustees
  • Ensure all persons are given reasonable opportunities to participate effectively in ongoing processes for the improvement of Health and Safety on Trust lands.
